Streets of Derry
Today was the first day on our 6 day tour of Ireland and we went straight to Northern Ireland to a town called “Derry” if you are of Irish decent or “London Derry” if you are from the UK. There has been a lot of violent history here involving the British taking away and or not giving the Irish equal rights. This is where “Bloody Sunday” took place, where 14 Irish protesters were shot by the London army. There is still a huge divide here between the native Irish people and the people from the UK. The two cultures are split by a river and do not mix with out violence erupting. Later that night we went out to a pub and listened to a band there playing traditional irish music. It was really great and the Irish are very friendly.
